Sunrise at the Hilton Moorea Overwater Bungalows

Day 1: Island Arrival + Hilton Moorea Bliss
We arrived in Papeete at 5:30 AM and were greeted by our transfer driver with fragrant leis. After a short drive, we caught the ferry to Moorea. The ferry ride gave us our first real glimpse of paradise—turquoise waters, jagged green mountains, and a soft breeze welcoming us in. Once on Moorea, we checked into the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort. Though fully booked, it felt tranquil. Our over water bungalow had a sunrise-facing deck and glass floor with fish below. The room featured a luxurious claw foot tub and a rain shower. That night, we enjoyed an incredible buffet with everything from prawns to tropical fruits, and a lively Polynesian dance show.
Day 2: E-Bike Adventure + Local Eats
We picked up e-bikes after breakfast and explored Moorea's lush coast, with its dramatic peaks and vibrant roadside stands. We stopped for fresh juices, local ice cream, and breathtaking photos. After a dip in the resort pool and a round of tropical cocktails, we headed to Rudy’s for dinner—amazing parrot fish, pasta, and island hospitality. The owner even came by to check on every table.
Day 3: Snorkeling + Sunset Cruise
Another day in paradise started with snorkeling right off our bungalow deck. In the afternoon, we boarded a sunset cruise with rum punch in hand and views of blacktip sharks gliding through the lagoon. The cruise ended with pastel skies as we dined at a cozy local restaurant where the staff treated us like family.
Day 4: A Scramble + Smooth Sailing
A surprise ferry change meant a mad dash to pack and get to the dock. We scrambled, made it, and laughed about it over coffee on board. Embarkation on the Windstar Star Breeze was smooth, and our spacious suite impressed with a French balcony, large bed, and walk-in closet. Dinner was casual, with sunset views from the top deck and gentle live music.
Day 5: Spa Day + Steak Night
Back in Moorea, we started with spa treatments—mine a massage, his a seaweed wrap. Post-spa glow, we sipped mimosas and enjoyed the views. Dinner at Candles featured a 60oz steak that definitely stole the show, served under the stars. We ended the night with card games and laughter in our suite.
Day 6: Pearls + Polynesian Dancers
We visited a pearl farm and picked our own oysters—so fun! Learning about how pearls are cultivated made them even more special. That evening featured a shipboard Polynesian show and dinner with friends, topped off with chocolates on our pillows and goodnight breezes from the open balcony doors.
Day 7: Coral Garden + Good Vibes
We drift-snorkeled through vibrant coral gardens, the current carrying us gently over marine life. It was effortless and stunning. That evening was all about food, fun, and laughter with new friends. Dancing, card games, and the kind of joy only vacation brings.
Day 8: Sharks, Rays & Island Life
A dream day! We snorkeled with sharks and rays in crystal-clear water. Our ukulele-playing boat captain also showed us how to make coconut milk and weave palm plates. Lunch was served picnic-style with fresh poke and tropical fruits. Dinner at Basil & Bamboo was a culinary highlight, followed by a hilarious and heartwarming crew talent show.
Day 9: Shopping + Fire Dancers
After souvenir hunting in town (hello, Tahitian pearl necklace!), we tendered to a private motu for a Polynesian BBQ. The evening ended with awe-inspiring fire dancing beneath the stars.
Day 10: Vanilla & Farewells
We toured Huahine’s restored cultural sites and a vanilla plantation. Vanilla ice cream with vanilla rum? Yes, please. We also saw the legendary blue-eyed eels swimming in a nearby stream. The farewell dinner on board was bittersweet but beautiful.
Day 11: Poolside Chill + Local Finds
We checked into the Intercontinental Tahiti, greeted by sweeping views of Moorea. The day was spent poolside, soaking up sun and sipping cocktails. Later, we walked to a nearby store to grab deli dinners and local snacks for a chill night.
Day 12: Tattoos + Rainy Day Fun
A rainy day became a meaningful one as we finally got our planned family turtle tattoos. Each had a personalized design, and even our friends joined. It was the perfect souvenir and a shared memory we’ll never forget.
Day 13: Homeward Bound
Early airport chaos (Airport security is not the same as TSA!), but lounge access and business class seats made the journey home comfy. We had plenty of time to reflect on the beauty, joy, and connections this trip gifted us.

Final Thoughts: French Polynesia was the escape of dreams—luxury, adventure, and authentic island culture. From sunrise swims to fire dances, pearl dives to tropical sunsets, every moment was unforgettable. Whether it’s romance, relaxation, or reunion, this destination delivers magic. ?
